Abstract

This article examines deviation and rule addition in the works of Seyyed Ali Salehi and Khalil Hawi. The research was conducted using a descriptive–analytical method, and data were collected through a library-based approach. Deviation and rule addition are among the defamiliarization techniques in Russian Formalism that contribute to the foregrounding of poetic language. Salehi employs both components in a balanced manner, whereas Hawi places greater emphasis on deviation. Analysis of the poems indicates that Salehi demonstrates a stronger tendency toward rule addition, while Hawi is more prominent in semantic and phonological deviations.
