Folk Beliefs in the Poetry of Mokhles Kashani

The Indian style (Sabk-e Hendi) is recognized for its precision and special attention to the details of everyday life and tangible phenomena. Folk beliefs, which originate from people's observations, experiences, and interpretations of natural and social phenomena, provide a fertile ground for the cultivation of such attention to detail. By employing these elements alongside sensory imagery, poets have succeeded in creating themes that are vivid, dynamic, and emotionally charged. The main objective of this study is to examine folk beliefs in the poetry of Mokhles Kashani. The research method is descriptive–analytical. The findings indicate that the Indian style of poetry reflects the mindset, culture, and prevalent beliefs of the Safavid era, in which mythical, superstitious, and mystical elements are intricately intertwined. Mokhles Kashani, through his skillful use of these components, integrates popular beliefs such as divination (fal), fortune (tāleʿ), the number seven, and mythical beings like the Simorgh into his poetic structure. He employs these elements not merely as decorative motifs but as semantic and structural devices that shape meaning. His poetry is multilayered and profoundly emotive, serving both as a mirror of his era’s spirit and as a vessel for universal human themes.
