Content Analysis of Lyric Poetry (Songs Describing Nature, Religious Beliefs, Joy, Descriptions of Times and Seasons, and Epic Tones) in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province

Abstract

Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province is one of the rich and largely unspoiled centers of folkloric poetry and local songs, most of which are manifested in the form of lyrical literature. The simplicity and unadorned quality of these poems, together with their reflection of the ancient culture, customs, and traditions of this region, are clearly evident throughout them. Accordingly, given the accelerating development of technology and the gradual erosion of folk culture, it appears highly necessary to undertake appropriate measures for the collection, documentation, and analysis of these cultural legacies and authentic poems before they fall into neglect and eventual oblivion. Therefore, in the present study, the author has sought, through a field-based method, to collect and record, transcribe phonetically, and subsequently analyze the lyrical poetry of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province. Following the introduction, review of the literature, and research methodology, this study analyzes lyrical songs concerning descriptions of nature—including descriptions of trees, plants, flowers, natural landscapes, and animals—as well as descriptions of times and occasions, religious beliefs and spiritual convictions, including religious beliefs reflected in lullabies, beliefs concerning the attributes of God and His praise, lullabies emphasizing attention to the Qur’an, religious beliefs in love poetry, and religious beliefs in work songs. The study also examines themes of joy and the epic tone manifested in lyrical literature.
